ESD safety is of considerable importance to many industries that handle sensitive electronic equipment. According to ISO, there are a number of ESD safety standards in force that serve as a framework for companies seeking to improve safety at work.
What is ESD all about?
ESD – Electrostatic Discharge (Electrostatic Discharge), but known as static electricity.
This type of unwanted electricity (electrostatic discharge) can cause malfunctions, problems or irreversible defects in electronic products/components, especially SMD (Surface Mounting Devices) components.
There are numerous topics involved in creating a total ESD protection strategy - the combination of certain types of footwear, clothing and gloves can help enormously when trying to achieve greater safety.
For example, repairing sensitive electronic equipment without proper protection can cause electrostatic damage.
The oil industry, the plastic packaging industry, the pyrotechnics industry and the wood industry are some examples of where there is a greater need to apply anti-static protection to prevent serious accidents, since electrostatic discharges can have terrible consequences.
ESD protective footwear
ESD protective footwear and anti-static footwear help to substantially reduce the build-up of static electricity generated when a worker is in motion, as the footwear dissipates this energy to the ground.
However, ESD protective footwear is more efficient than the most basic anti-static footwear.

ESD protective clothing
The anti-static (conductive) fibres in this type of garment prevent the accumulation of charges, which is regulated by the EN 61340-5-1 standard.
ESD protective clothing is tested in accordance with EN 1149-5.
ESD protective gloves
ESD protective gloves make it possible to handle accessories and components much more safely, thus avoiding the risk of static discharge.
They are usually made of materials such as polyester and help to improve grip and protect electronic media.
ESD gloves are tested according to EN 1149-5 or the latest standards for anti-static gloves, such as EN 16350.
